CURT BRANOM is a theatre artist based in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he works as an actor, director, producer and coach, with experience and interests in musical satire, contemporary opera, and theatre for young people.

Actor Curt Branom was a principal cast member in Beach Blanket Babylon for more than 20 years and was with the iconic San Francisco show until it closed in 2019 after an historic, record breaking 45-year run. During that time, he created and inhabited dozens of indelible roles, from the flamboyant King Louis XIV to Bernie Sanders, Putin and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The San Francisco Chronicle noted “…[Branom] tailored each new burst of laughter to how his audience was responding to the previous one, all as a testament to that elusive alchemy between performer and witness that’s only possible in live theater.”

His New York acting credits have included principal roles in Hurlyburly, A Lie of the Mind, Our Life and Times (MAC and Bistro Award), and How Now Voyager. Branom’s regional credits include leading roles in Sweet Charity (Bay Area Theater Critics Circle nomination for Best Actor), Little Shop of Horrors, Li’l Abner, Sugar, Oklahoma!, Some Enchanted Evening, And What Give Up Showbiz? and You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown. He was recently featured in a new production of Jake Heggie’s acclaimed opera, For A Look Or A Touch. His commercial and voiceover credits include Sutter Health, Microsoft, Intel, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, 3DO, MTV, Evite.com, “Fly Away Home” as well as the video games Grand Turismo 2 and Crash ‘N Burn.

In concerts to benefit arts, education and health, Curt Branom has sung numerous times with legendary opera star Frederica von Stade, as well as with the San Francisco Symphony and the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus. As an Emcee, he has hosted major events for Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Music of Remembrance.

As a director, Branom recently staged acclaimed professional productions for the San Francisco Symphony and Teatro Zinzanni, as well as a student production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee for Archbishop Riordan High School in San Francisco.

In 2012, he co-founded Pacific Singers & Actors Workshop (www.singersandactorsworkshop.org), a Bay Area nonprofit that offers a 10-week course in acting, singing and improvisation for middle and high school students. Branom also teaches and coaches acting for opera singers at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, SongFest at the Colburn School in Los Angeles, and the Los Angeles Opera’s Ambassadors Leadership Program.

Curt Branom was recently named a recipient of the 2019 Jefferson Awards for Public Service, as well as a 2021 Titan Award from Theatre Bay Area. He is currently creating The Magic Cable Car, an online musical adventure series for children, with live performances in development. He lives in San Francisco with his husband, Jake Heggie. His greatest role to date is being Grayson’s dad.

In 2019, Curt was a guest on Jim Jarrett’s “The Bay Area Actor”. Listen in to hear Curt’s story, his biggest inspirations and his theatrical and life experiences in New York and San Francisco.
